It takes your money and never says thank you. It’s always running out on you. It always takes and when it gives, it never lasts. Isn’t it time you broke up with your gas pump? Caltrain and SamTrans are hosting a break-up party and the two transit agencies want your best break-up line at #LaterPump on social media. The party will be held at the Redwood City Transit Center and Caltrain Station on National Dump the Pump Day, June 20, 2013 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The two public transit agencies will have some fun giveaways for the first 100 customers stopping by the Dump the Pump booth between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.. Those who tweet and Instagram at #LaterPump will also have the opportunity to symbolically let go of a bad relationship by releasing a “gas” balloon. And all entrants will be eligible to win the grand prize, an OGIO SamTrans or Caltrain branded laptop backpack ideal for carrying their belongings during their new bus or rail commute. Transit customers can also stop by to chat with agency staff about transit commute alternatives and enjoy a light lunch time snack. Entering the Contest The Peninsula bus and rail agencies are encouraging drivers to give up the high cost of driving by trying out transit as an alternative. The average household can save more than $9,000 annually by giving up one car and all the costs associated with car ownership like maintenance, insurance and gas. To get potential transit users in the mood for pump dumping, they are encouraging people to say “Later” to the pump by tweeting their best break-up lines to @Caltrain_News and @SamTrans_News using the hashtag #LaterPump. Another way members of the community can get involved is by Instagramming their best “lonely car left behind” photos and tagging them with #LaterPump to enter the contest. Those interested in entering the contest should check out some of the entries already submitted by visiting the agencies blog peninsulamoves.wordpress.com/dump-the-pump/ . Pump dumpers can find inspiration by reviewing some of the previous submissions like “Dear Ethyl…” and “It’s not you, it’s your fumes.” They can also review some of the E-Z Transit Tools that will help them plan their Pump-free commute and ask District staff questions as they plan to say “Later” to the Pump.
