World leaders are gathering next week in San Francisco for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit at Moscone Center.

The U.S. Secret Service says increased security measures will be in place “in the days leading up to, during and immediately following” APEC Leaders’ Week 2023. This includes temporary but significant impacts to public transportation in downtown San Francisco around Moscone Center, the Embarcadero, and Nob Hill.

For SamTrans passengers, this means the following routes will have detours in place from Monday, Nov. 13, through Friday, Nov. 17:

  • 292

  • 397

  • 398

  • FCX

  • 713

SamTrans has set up a webpage to help you navigate any detours created by the summit.

“It’s always our goal to provide safe, reliable, and convenient transportation for our passengers, even when major disruptions like this come along,” said SamTrans Director of Customer Experience Lisa Peabody. "SamTrans riders can utilize our APEC route changes page to plan their trips and avoid surprises of changes or closed bus stops."

Caltrain service and schedules are not expected to be affected by APEC in San Francisco because its stations are not within the enhanced security zones. However, SF Muni lines are heavily affected by the event. See the SFMTA APEC page for more transit information.

Though Caltrain stations are outside the enhanced security zone, protests may potentially impact passengers disembarking at or near Caltrain stations. Stay aware of your surroundings and monitor the Caltrain website alerts page for the latest information.
