The San Mateo County Transportation District Board of Directors passed a resolution honoring the entire month of October as Filipino Heritage Month at its most recent meeting.

The district will use the month of October to reflect on Philippine history and culture. It’s an opportunity to hear about and appreciate the many contributions of Filipino Americans.

For instance, during World War II, more than 260,000 Filipino and Filipino-American soldiers answered the call to action and bravely served under the American flag.

The Filipino Veterans of World War II Congressional Gold Medal Act unanimously passed through Congress and was signed into law in December 2016.

A 2021 survey showed Filipinos make up more than one-in-five SamTrans riders.
