The Real Estate and Property Management Department provides a full complement of real estate services for the San Mateo County Transit District ("District"). Our main areas of focus are property management, acquisition of property to support capital projects and transit oriented development.
Property Management
The Real Estate and Property Development group administers the District's property portfolio and processes real property agreements (e.g. leases, licenses, and permits) to enable third parties to utilize District properties.

Capital Projects Support
The California Department of Transportation ("Caltrans") has designated SamTrans a Level 1 qualified agency. The Level 1 qualification allows staff to acquire all property required for all capital projects that involve the use of Federal or State funds. All appraisal, acquisition, and relocations activities follow the guidelines of Federal Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 and amended in 1987.
The Real Estate group has successfully purchased right of way to allow completion of capital projects that include transit improvement projects, grade separation, and highway improvement projects.
