SamTrans Updates Runbook, Restores School Service

Limited SamTrans service changes went into effect Sunday, August 8, with full implementation by Sunday, August 15, restoring school service for the new school year and increasing service levels on routes seeing higher demand.

The resumption of school service is the largest change, as SamTrans has 47 routes that serve 69 elementary, middle and high schools, as well as community colleges. These service changes will happen throughout next week, depending on when the school year begins, so students and parents should visit www.samtrans.com/Get2School for schedule information.

Additionally, Route 14 will end its loop at Terra Nova High School instead of the Linda Mar Park & Ride in order to better serve students. Route 16 has been merged with Route 49. Weekday service on Routes 251 and 256 returns to pre-pandemic levels, and the FCX has replaced its 6 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. trips with 7:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. trips to better reflect the travel needs of a growing number of people returning to the office.

SamTrans adjusts its scheduling and service operations three times a year to take into account changing traffic impacts, travel patterns and bus operator availability. The adjustments help improve on-time performance and make the bus system run more smoothly.

Members of the public interested in commenting on the changes can submit feedback through the SamTrans website. The next runbook change will take place in January 2022.
