Now in its 16th year, SamTrans is holding its annual Art Takes a Bus Ride contest for young artists throughout San Mateo County.
The contest invites local students to submit artistic creations for the theme “Ride for the Planet, Ride SamTrans.” The winning entries will be displayed as a wrap on two SamTrans buses for an entire year. The winning student art also will be displayed on ad cards inside SamTrans buses. The collaborative effort between SamTrans and the San Mateo County Office of Education engages students in the classroom and emphasizes arts in the community.
Schools throughout San Mateo County will be promoting the contest to their students. Submissions can come from anyone in grades 1 through 12, with one winner selected from each grade. All submissions must be received by close of business on Friday, April 3, and can be sent either through participating schools or directly to the San Mateo County Office of Education, 101 Twin Dolphin Drive, Redwood City, 94065.
One of the winning 2019 Art Buses will be on display Sunday, March 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Next Big Think.
The winning entrants will also be honored with special recognition certificates at the SamTrans Board of Directors meeting on Wednesday, June 3. The board meeting begins at 2 p.m. and takes place at SamTrans headquarters at 1250 San Carlos Avenue in San Carlos.
